A Finished Hat

I’ve been trying to work through some of my older stash at home and there was a call for hats for a shelter in need. I decided that hats would be a good stash buster, so I cast on and managed to get one finished last night.

The yarn is LionBrand Heartland in the Glacier Bay colorway. I’ve had this in my stash for several years now and I love the color, but I just hadn’t gotten around to making anything with it. I used about half the skein and I should be able to get another hat out of the remaining yarn.

Brian often becomes my size tester for hats, so he of course had to try it on. There was no particular pattern for this hat. I just cast on stitches, worked in a 2×2 rib pattern until it was long enough, then cut the yarn and pulled it through all the stitches. This is a very simple hat construction that has served me well for charity hats that can be worn on many different sized heads. Ribbing helps it be the right width and the crown is flexible because it’s not shaped to a particular size.

Stay crafty!
