The Return to Salina-Part Two

Before we knew it, race day was here. I decided to run the 10k since I was just not feeling the half marathon this year after the stress of board meetings just two days before.

A woman takes a selfie at the start and finish area of a race, with runners in the background and a banner displaying 'START FINISH' above.

While running, I saw the birthday boy!

A runner dressed in a colorful costume, including a blue jacket and sunglasses, jogging along a road lined with trees and shrubs during a race.

The nurses decided it would be fun to do their own recreation of the event from 2023. We laugh because the young son of one of them asked if they were going to see the guy who took a nap on the course. They said, yep, we’re going to see him!

Two women lying on a brick road, wearing bright green shirts that read 'Out Run Your Boredom' as part of a playful recreation during a race event.

Brian ran into Emily from 90 Day Fiancé! We watch the show every Sunday, so I’m rather jealous that he got to see her and I didn’t!

A man wearing a blue jacket with a sash that reads 'It's my BIRTHDAY' stands next to a woman in a gray sweatshirt, both smiling in a park setting during race day.

When Brian got to the finish line, I practically tackled him. He made it!

Two people embracing in a street during a race event, with a finish line in the background.

The nurses were there to greet him as well and you can see that everyone is so happy with the outcome!

Three people celebrate at the finish line of a race, wearing medals and smiling. A man in a blue outfit with a birthday sash stands in the center, flanked by two women.

And that concludes the trip to Salina. Brian finished the race he started two years ago, and got to finish it on his birthday. We met up with the nurses who helped save his life that day and their mother who yelled at them saying there was a man down. We have lifelong friends now because of the trauma of that day and I am so thankful that Brian is still here with me!

A group of five people sitting together in front of a colorful mural that says 'HELLO FROM 67401 SALINA, KS.' They are wearing race medals and casual clothing, smiling happily.

Don’t take any day for granted. You never know when it may be your last, and there’s no guarantee of that next breath. Know that your life is precious and in the words of Disturbed’s Memories song, “Take a bite of this world while you can, and hold on to memories!”
