Last night was the senior send off at work where we congratulate the seniors who are graduating next week. It was bittersweet because it means that we will be saying goodbye to students that we watched turn into young adults during their time here.

I’m going to miss this kid. This is Daniel and I have watched him grow into a good young man. He came here with broken English skills, learned the language and overcame barriers all while he got his undergrad degree. Then, je continued on to get his master’s degree while working as a resident director. He’s leaving to go back to Italy, and it’s bittersweet for sure. I’m proud of all he accomplished and the leader that he became on campus. I’m sad to see him leave, but I know he’s going to go on and do great things, no matter where he goes in this world.
Nights like this are why I work in higher education. Many of these students come in nervous and unsure of how to make new friends and how to handle classes. Some go on to do well. Some don’t do so well. And then there are the standout students, like Daniel, who make an impact on your life just as much as you make an impact on theirs.
Stay crafty!
