Every summer, Brian gets in a battle with the raccoons that frequent the forest behind us. We have bird feeders on the back deck and the raccoons decide that they are an easy meal if you don’t bring them in to the house in time. We had one steal a whole suet feeder on Friday night, which officially kicked off Raccoon Battle 2026.
Sunday night, Brian caught a mother raccoon and there were three babies who were trying to find a way to get their mother out of the trap. Brian, thinking he would just catch them all and relocate them together, grabbed a bin from the garage and went to work. He was able to grab the first small one and get him in the bin. He then grabbed the second one, opened the bin, and out came flying the first one. He put number two in the bin, grabbed number one, and then number two went running out the bin. He ultimately let mama raccoon go since he didn’t want to separate the babies from their mother due to them not having much of a survival chance if they got separated. He was rewarded with the raccoons peeing and pooping on the back deck, so this was the scene last night as he washed down the deck.
I had a good chuckle about this since the battle happens every year and we have never had a whole litter show up like that before. I made a potholder while he sprayed down raccoon poo.
