For my second finished project this weekend, I bring you, socks! I always have a pair of socks going so that I have something to work on during lunch at work and also have a traveling project so that I don’t get bored sitting around and waiting for appointments and what not.

This is just a plain pair of vanilla socks made out of Paton’s Kroy Sock yarn in the Tourmaline Stripes colorway. I like how they turned out and I even wore them for the first time on Monday.
Socks are always a go to project of mine, and I would say they are my most worn knitted items. I only wear my hand-knitted socks now unless I am exercising, then I wear cushioned workout socks. I find that wool keeps your feet warm in the winter and cool in the summer, which is one of the wonderfully weird properties of the natural fiber. I also find that the socks wear like iron, especially brands like Paton’s Kroy Sock.

Some of the hand-dyed sock yarns out there tend to wear out faster because they are made with shorter length fibers like merino. While they feel lovely on, those shorter fibers tend to wear out much faster than a longer, more coarse wool. Since I am starting to enter the realm of dyeing yarn, I think I would like to explore finding the same kind of base as what’s in a Kroy Sock and then dye that so that the socks will wear longer. I’m sure if I hand-washed all my socks, I could get more wear out of a merino fiber, but I’m just not going to do that when I can throw them in the washing machine.
Stay crafty!
