Knitting

A Recycled Sweater

On Monday, I decided I needed a project that was made out of really nice yarn to reinvigorate my knitting in the evenings. I looked through my yarn stash and found several contenders in there, but when I looked in the top bin, there was the yarn that I had unwound from the sweater that was too big now. Malabrigo worsted is one of my favorite yarns of all time, so I immediately decided this was the yarn I wanted to work with.

I went back to an old favorite pattern of mine: Mr. Greenjeans. It’s a super simple cardigan pattern, excellent for those who have never made a cardigan before, those who need an intro to cables, or those who just want a nice utilitarian cardigan they can wear with anything. Ethel is being so kind as to model the cardigan in process.

The yarn is buttery soft and once again I remember why Malabrigo is one of my favorite yarns. It glides through your hands as you knit and it’s just silky soft. This is a discontinued colorway called Velvet Grapes, and I love the color changes in the kettle dyed yarn.

I also really love how fast this cardigan knits up. I’m going to be dividing the sleeves away from the body tonight when I work on it. I would have done this last night, but after Survivor ended, I was too tired and needed to go to bed.

On a non-knitting note, my broccoli babies are shooting up! It’s back to being cold here again, so they will have to enjoy shooting up inside for a while more.

Stay crafty!
