We have had record amounts of rainfall and flooding in Kentucky where I live. This weekend, I can only recall brief moments when it was not raining. This morning, it was a breath of fresh air to drive in to work and not have to use the windshield wipers and grip the steering wheel extra tight. I did get some knitting done this weekend, but I’ll share about that tomorrow. Today, I want to just share a little about what is happening in my community right now.
The Kentucky River runs right through the city of Frankfort, KY. I am fortunate enough to live on top of a hill that overlooks the downtown area (in the picture above, our house would be near the top right-ish). From our view, we can see the river and city. Normally, it’s a nice view. Right now though, anywhere that is elevated that can show you the downtown area is showing major destruction.
Houses are under water. The river is not supposed to crest until this afternoon, so more people will continue to be affected by this flood event. This flood is expected to become the worst in recorded history for Frankfort. Just seeing what nature can do puts me in awe.
So, please pray for Kentucky. Frankfort is not the only area that has been hit hard by this flooding. So many people have been affected by this flood now and it will take weeks before the true damage can be calculated since we have to wait for the flood waters to recede to even know the full extent of it.
