Yesterday, it finally stopped raining. Now, this is a very good thing, but it also means that it is going to be very cold the next two days. I have little baby broccoli plants, and the peas and radishes are starting to emerge from their near drowning. Since it had been raining so much, I hadn’t gone out to check on the beds since Wednesday, so I headed down there last night to assemble the greenhouse cover on the one bed since it was going to get so cold.
I disturbed the sleep of this particular lady. She stared at me a good long while making sure I wasn’t something she should be afraid of. When she was finally satisfied enough, she slowly wandered off and I saw two more get up and join her. The only bad thing about seeing them was that when looking at the plants, they had chomped down two of the six broccoli babies. They are now covered, so hopefully the last four plants will survive. On the bright side, they apparently despise radishes!
Also, anyone know any good non-pesticide deterrents for ticks? I may just break down and spray out there, but I looked down at my pant legs after finishing up the greenhouse assembly and I had four lone star ticks on them. I of course went straight inside and stripped down for a full tick check, which thankfully revealed none had managed to get inside the pants and on me. I despise ticks. I can deal with just about any other bug other than wasps (they are just little nasty buggers), but ticks freak me out. This just makes me realize how much I need to put down the weed barrier out there and put in some lava rock so that I am not standing in grass and brush while out in the vegetable garden.
