We are experiencing a heat wave here in Kentucky, which means that I am trying to stay cool inside while keeping things alive outside in the garden. I came home to a very sad looking eggplant plant which thankfully bounced back with a drink of water. That can be the problem with potted plants and small containers when it gets close to 100 degrees. I’ll be babying the plants as much as possible these next couple of days before we head out for vacation. I do have someone to water the container plants, but the raised beds, which thankfully seem to be holding moisture decently, will be on their own for the week.
It’s times like this that I am thankful for the Garden.Farm.Thrive Academy that I joined a while back. While my grandfather knows quite a bit about raising vegetables, the rest of my family does not, and they also don’t know anything about how to preserve foods, ferment foods, or other skills that used to be common knowledge. Fortunately, both my grandmothers passed on some knowledge to me before they passed, but there is still a lot I don’t know. So, I joined the GFT Academy because they have a huge database of how to do lots of things like preservation, raising animals (I know, I don’t have any, but one of these days, you never know), and cooking from scratch. They also have a challenge called the Seeking Simplicity Challenge that I worked through a couple of months ago that really got me thinking about what I spend my time on. There are recipes, how-tos, and lots of information. They also have a blog where you can get a bunch of information for free, so check that out if you have any interest in these things.
On the crafting front, I did a little bit of weaving on the coaster loom last night. Not much else to report since L took the prayer shawls with her to be added to the next group that will be blessed and donated. I’m trying to get things wrapped up here before we head to Montana. I’ll be a little hit or miss the next week or so while we travel, but I’ll be back for sure after July 4th with plenty of crafting updates!
