On Monday, we drove to Whitefish and checked into our hotel where we would be staying until Wednesday. We knew we wanted to get to Glacier National Park, so at 7PM, we were checking the park site to see if we would be one of the lucky 500 who could get the early time slot for the Going-to-the-Sun Road. I managed to hit refresh at the right time and we got our ticket to be on the road, so off we went early Tuesday morning.

Glacier is gorgeous. The whole park is full of stunning views. Unfortunately, Brian’s knee had a bad flare up after the race and we were not able to hike a ton because of that. But, even without hiking, we spent a solid 15 hours in the park and saw many amazing sites.

We even got to see some wildlife. We saw a dot in the distance that we were told was a grizzly bear. The park had shut down several trails that are normally quite popular because a mama bear had cubs and was frequenting that area which led to an extra risk. But, we also saw moose, big horn sheep, mountain goats, deer, marmots, and many varieties of birds.

After spending the day at the park, we were beat the next day. We rested and then joined a lake karaoke cruise through Far West Tours. It was a lot of fun, and we even each sang a song, which I’m sure was possibly the worst performance of the night, but we had a lot of fun.

On Thursday, it was time to drive back to Missoula and head back home. It’s always nice to get home after a long trip, but it was hard to leave all those views behind. Of course, there is also winter in Montana, so those views become covered in ice and snow for a good chunk of the year.

And if you want to flip through some more photos, here is a slideshow of some shots from Glacier.
Stay crafty!
