Cleaning Fleece

This weekend, I took advantage of the nice weather and decided it was time to wash the fleece that I purchased back in May at the fiber festival. I was stunned and just how dirty this fleece actually was.

I used Unicorn Power Scour which is a detergent that is specifically designed to clean fleece. I had a small bottle since I really did think that it would only take two washes before the fleece would come clean. Here’s the fleece in the bathtub.

And this will give you an idea of how dirty this was.

And this is after soaking it for 20 minutes.

After 20 minutes, I rinsed it out and soaked it again.

This is what the water looked like after the second soak. It’s better, but still not running clean. But, I was now our of power scour, so I needed to dry the fleece. I decided to dry it on the back deck since it has good airflow.

It does look way more white than it did before!

I even had a visitor. If you zoom in, there’s a butterfly that decided to land on the fleece for a bit.

I probably need to wash this fleece at least once more to really get the rest of the gunk out of it, but this at least got rid of the majority of the lanolin, so I don’t have to worry about the fleece getting matted in the bag now.

Stay crafty!
