While we were camping this weekend, Brian and I both realized that we needed some throw blankets for the camper. I remembered that I had been given a no sew fleece blanket kit a couple of years ago by my sister-in-law, so I came home from work and dug it out of the craft stash. Here’s the basics of how to make one of these.
First, you get your blanket kit or fabric and lay it out on the floor. In my case, a cat will always help you with this process.
You have two layers sandwiched together. You’ll then cut out the corners and start cutting strips around an inch or so wide. Do this all around the blanket, cutting both layers.
Then you tie the strips together. You’re going to take one from the top and one from the bottom sections. I would suggest making sure that you tie all the knots in the same direction. It just makes it neater and more uniform in appearance in my opinion.
You’ll go around and tie all the knots, then I go back and do a second round of tightening the knots.
Congratulations, it’s a finished project! These are super easy to make and do make great gifts. This is when I realize how much I miss Jo-Ann Fabrics. For Black Friday, they would put these no sew kits on sale from $5-10. One year I made blankets for everyone in the family, picking out styles that matched their personalities. I’m unsure if Michael’s will be doing anything similar this year or if Hobby Lobby will take up the blanket charge. I’ll keep an eye out for that if they do.
Vanellope was not happy when I took away her new (so she thought) blanket. She will likely take another fleece blanket over soon since she does love them.
